Skin Tags During Pregnancy on NeckĪs a pregnant woman, you may have noticed small growths of skin tags in strange places. While they might be unsightly or bothersome, they are harmless and do not need to be removed unless desired for cosmetic reasons. They can vary in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters in diameter and usually have a narrow stalk connecting them to the surrounding skin. Skin tags while pregnant typically occur in areas where there is friction such as around the neck, eyelids, underarms, and groin area. ![]() Skin tags can also appear due to friction from tight clothing being worn over extended periods while pregnant. Additional causes include rapid weight gain during pregnancy as well as genetics or hormones from a mother’s family history. Estrogen stimulates collagen production which makes skin thicker and more prone to developing extra folds that can become irritated and form into a tag. The main cause of skin tags during pregnancy is increased estrogen levels in the body. While they may be unsightly and bothersome to some people, they are not dangerous and do not cause pain or discomfort. Skin tags are small, harmless growths of skin that typically appear on the neck, underarms, or in areas where the skin rubs together. Many expecting mothers experience skin tags during pregnancy, which can cause worry and confusion. When you consult your doctor about these growths, he or she will likely recommend simple removal methods such as cutting or burning them off after birth. Skin tags can be found in numerous locations including the armpits, face, neck, and groin area. They were also attached to the surface of my skin by thin stalk-like structures. With closer inspection, I could see that they were soft and flesh-colored with a slightly darker center. ![]() My personal experience with skin tags began during my second trimester when I noticed two small growths near my neckline. ![]()
